MSG Fall 2007 Forum
November 7, 2007
Kellogg Center, East Lansing
Home Sweet Home:
Current & Future Housing Options of Michigan Seniors

On November 7, at the Kellogg Center in Lansing, the Michigan Society of Gerontology sponsored a one day forum to try and bring to the forefront as many issues as possible that face this rapidly growing industry. Representatives from private developers, health care agencies, aging organizations, and also policy and research professionals, came together to start the overwhelming task of reviewing what has happened, what is happening, and what should be happening in the world of assisted living.
Greg Bator of the law firm Bator-Berlin, P.C., skillfully moderated the day’s events. It was a wonderful start for such a huge subject matter, but it became unmistakably clear very quickly that there is much more to discuss, and many more decisions to be made by those most involved in the assisted living world, if a positive impact, with positive solutions are to be developed and implemented for this rapidly growing and changing industry. More than one participant pointed out that there wasn’t enough time to cover such an expansive subject matter. Therefore, we need your help. For those of you who attended the forum, what would you like to see happen next?
- Should this assistive living adventure be broken down into smaller components, i.e., adult foster care issues; cost issues; licensing vs. non-licensing; big developments vs. smaller home situations?
- Should a longer event be planned so that more time can be spent discussing issues? How can we make this goal of all of ours, that of improving the world of assisted living, an achievable goa
- Please send us an email with your thoughts or join us on the MSG listserv with your thoughts and suggestions as we try to make a positive difference in the lives of our families, friends, clients and others who are facing the need to move from their home into an assisted living environment. We look forward to hearing from you.
