Implications of Healthcare Reform for

Older Michiganians

November 4, 2010

8:00 am- 3:30 pm

East Lansing Hannah Community Center

The Forum

A panel of experts from policy, practice and research arenas will discuss the Federal Health Care Reform Act and how best to bridge community service agencies and healthcare providers’ assistance to older Michiganians. Specific topics include:

  • Medicare and Medicaid- what stays the same, what will be different for seniors
  • Services- impact on service delivery, care transitions, types of services
  • Community-based systems: how to integrate into the healthcare continuum, and how to make healthcare provides aware of the services available
  • Administrative Issues- data gathering and data reporting.

The panelists and audience will engage in an interactive dialogue that addresses tough questions and generates new ideas about how to improve the quality of life of older adults in Michigan. Attendees will have an opportunity to participate in breakout sessions addressing topics that
pertain to impacts of healthcare law changes, potential ways to gather data to measure the impacts and ways to use evidence-based research findings to improve services.

Who Should Attend

State and local officials, area agency on aging professionals, community center staff, care facility administrators, health administrators, discharge planners, academics, students, advocates, researchers, aging policy analysts, and social workers.
